Saving those fabric scraps....

I have always saved my fabric scraps. All of them. Even teeny tiny scraps have a little space on the shelf.

My latest slow stitch project - a pieced cloth - is making use of them. What fun I am having with them and what joy sewing these little precious scraps of fabric together!

What do I define as a scrap? Any piece of fabric that is too small in itself to be made into anything on its own. I sort my scraps into piles of colour.

Precious little bundles.....

I make a little pile of some of my favourite fabrics, and then tie them together with a strip of selvedge. These little bundles are then my inspiration when I'm sewing.

As with all fabric and yarns, there are strict rules. They must regularly taken out of the box, spoken to in dulcet tones and stroked lovingly, before being returned to their little nesting box awaiting that perfect time to use them...

Back to my pieced cloth... the best thing about it, is that each little piece of fabric has a little memory attached. I also think the back is equally as lovely as the front!

I also love that you can see the joining stitches on the front. I make lots of little stab stitches too to add texture and interest.

I think I have a plan for this cloth now. We've been edging towards it gently - this cloth and me.....

If you follow me on Patreon, then I have a little slow stitched project that I will be sharing on there soon. So save those scraps of fabric!

Happy stitching!
