Getting to know you….

Getting to know you….

…getting to know all about you! From one of my favourite films The King And I, this line sums up what things are like for us here at the moment.

One of the most wonderful things about moving somewhere new is exploring. After a hectic few months finding our new house, packing up our old home and moving into our new one, as well as those new home things you need to do like putting up endless curtain rails, we are now at the stage where we are able to begin discovering this county we now call home.

We’ve done quite a lot of moving about in the last three years and it’s so lovely now to feel settled. We’re getting to know Exeter – a quite wonderful city of diversity and history. One of my new favourite places to chill is Cathedral Green – a grassy area flanked by wonderful shops and eateries overlooking the majestic cathedral. I feel quite humble in the shadow of this great building.

We’re exploring the coastline – the Jurassic coast and the English Riviera, and finding some favourite places. We’re on a ‘tor tour’ of Dartmoor – it’s such a vast and often bewildering place and we want to get to know it a little better.

Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve enjoyed visits to Killerton – a beautiful estate where a welcoming mansion stands in gorgeous gardens and parkland and A La Ronde – a quite enchanting 16 sided house with amazing views over the Exe estuary.

Beautiful Killerton

A La Ronde – amazing collections here of shells – the Shell Gallery in the roof is quite captivating.

Glorious Devon coastline

I’ll try and do a gallery post tomorrow (time permitting), so you can see just how beautiful it is.

We kind of feel like we’re on holiday and it still feels slightly strange to know this is now home. For keeps.

So Devon, it’s good to get to know you 🙂

Haven’t you noticed
Suddenly I’m bright and breezy
Because of all the beautiful and new
Things I’m learning about you
Day by day.
